Frontline drops buying more Trafigura ships: Focus on supertankers

Tanker shipping company Frontline, controlled by John Fredriksen, will not exercise its option to purchase four more ships from Trafigura. Instead, it will focus on expanding its VLCC fleet. Fredriksen recently said that the company is in talks to buy a larger VLCC fleet.

Hunter raises earnings and negotiates new ship sale

Norwegian Hunter Group managed a slight profit despite decreased VLCC earnings, while the tanker operator is mentioned as a potential acquisition target of John Fredriksen-controlled Frontline. Hunter informs it is in negotiations to sell another ship.

New tanker carrier expands order book on VLCCs

Norwegian Hunter is expanding its order book of VLCCs with an additional vessel which will also be constructed in South Korea. Altogether, eight vessels will be constructed for the company, while more could be on the way.

Two VLCC players keep the order book hot and buy old ships

One is buying up 16-year-old ships. The other has an order book with upwards of ten newbuilds. ShippingWatch has spoken to two of the new players betting on the VLCC market at a time when the sector is crying for scrapping with a slowdown in ordering.
