DNV GL warns against towage used in Maersk wreck

It is "not acceptable" to tow two ships side by side as Maersk Supply Service did during a 2016 shipwreck, says classification bureau DNV GL. The Danish Maritime Authority filed a police report against the offshore shipping company Monday this week.

One of the world's biggest quality assurance and risk management companies, DNV GL, does not recommend towing vessels side by side as was done by Maersk Supply Service in relation to a shipwreck in 2016.

The shipping company said Monday that it has been reported to the police by the Danish Maritime Authority, which has been investigating the incident in which two unmanned ships sank while being towed behind a third vessel en route to be scrapped.
