DP World's offshore carriers want to be first choice for majors

DP World has put René Kofod-Olsen in charge of the merger between Topaz Energy and Marine and P&O Maritime. The ambition is to secure one of the few but lucrative spots as supplier for the world's largest oil companies, he tells ShippingWatch.

This summer, Dubai-based port major DP World bought offshore ship operator Topaz Energy and Marine for more than USD 1 billion.

Since then, DP World has given its CEO, René Kofod-Olsen, an even bigger field to rule, as the company recently decided to merge Topaz Energy and Marine with P&O Maritime under the name P&O Maritime Logistics, and Kofod-Olsen has been appointed chief executive of the new setup.
