Wintershall terminates contract with Seadrill's accident-plagued rig

Wintershall terminates its contract with Seadrill-operated rig West Mira after the rig has been idled since an accident in March.

Oil company Wintershall now terminates a contract for rig West Mira, operated by John Fredriksen's Seadrill and owned by Norther Ocean, which is also part of Fredriksen's shipping and oil empire.

Wintershall DEA Norge AS has, according to a press release, informed Seadrill that the company wishes to terminate the contract as the rig has had a downtime of 47 days following an accident aboard the rig on March 19 this year.
