Nordic ports looking to join forces in the EU

The CEO of Danish Ports, Gitte Lillelund Bech, wants to join forces with the Swedish and Finnish ports to fight South European state subsidies, she tells ShippingWatch.

State subsidies feature prominently on the agenda of the new Danish Ports CEO. Gitte Lillebund Bech, who stepped into the job on August 1st, has been in contact with her colleagues in Sweden and Finland, and the plan is to form a joint Nordic alliance in the EU.

"There's a general consensus that we need to curb the fact that state subsidies are flowing into Southern Europe and not Northern Europe, and that the South European port rules are the ones that apply. We can find a joint foothold in many places," Gitte Lillelund Bech tells ShippingWatch.
