French union warns of new protests against DFDS

Next week could make the protests this Tuesday against DFDS in the French city of Calais seem like a walk in the park, warns a union boss, who demands that Eurotunnel's deal with DFDS for two ferries be taken off the table by July 1st.

The aggressive French union Syndicat Maritime Nord, which has demonstrated a willingness to turn to violent methods, is now threatening new protests next week in the city of Calais, Northern France, against the DFDS takeover of two ferries that are owned by Eurotunnel and operated by employee-owned SCOP SeaFrance.

The union has urged Eurotunnel to terminate the deal with DFDS by July 1st next week. If this fails to happen, a protest will take place over 3-4 days, which according to general secretary will make the protest on Tuesday look like a walk in the park.
