Equinor to commence extraction at Johan Sverdrup field

Equinor is green-lighted to begin extraction at major oil field Johan Sverdrup in the Norwegian North Sea. The first phase of the expansion is now ready, while the second phase is not due until 2022.

The Norwegian Oil Directorate has given the go-ahead for Equinor to start extracting oil from the Johan Sverdrup field in the Norwegian North Sea.

The field has been highlighted several times as one of the largest-ever oil expansions on the Norwegian shelf. The establishment itself has gone through several phases, of which the first phase is now announced ready for extraction, the Oil Directorate informs in a statement.
