Equinor to produce hydrogen in North Sea

The oil firm is poised to establish large-scale hydrogen production in the German North Sea alongside RWE and Gasunie.

With project AquaSector, partners Equinor, RWE and Gasunie plan to establish approximately 300MW in electrolysis capacity for hydrogen production in the German North Sea, writes Equinor in a statement.

The project will result in a production of up to 20,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, with the hydrogen slated for transport via a pipeline, AquaDuctus, to northern German island Heligoland as of early 2028.
