Denmark’s maritime spearhead in Asia

The newly-appointed Vice Chairman for the International Chamber of Shipping, the Dane Esben Poulsson, will emphasize the importance of dialogue between the major international shipping organizations, Poulsson informs ShippingWatch.

Esben Poulsson is a man of the shipping industry with origins in the Danish maritime world. Now he commences a new job as Vice Chairman of the international shipping organization International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).

In a sense, this is somewhat paradoxical. Esben Poulsson did grow up in Denmark, but his mother was Danish and his father was from Norway. When Ebsen was 12 years old, the family moved to Vancouver in Canada where Esben Poulsson grew up and received his education. In 1971, he moved to Hong Kong for his first job. But for no less than 22 years, the ICS’ new Vice Chairman has actually worked for the Danish shipping company Torm, and therefore, he knows the Danish shipping industry very well. Today, Esben Poulsson lives in Singapore and he still has close links with the Danish cluster of companies working in the Asian island state.
