Morten Pilnov, who is 33 years old and trained at the Maersk shipping school, has tried most sides of a special discipline within the shipping industry. To manage and optimise a pool of shipping companies from different parts of the world which is reflected in the different shipping companies’ history, traditions and cultures.
Morten Pilnov knows all about this but still, his new task is one of remarkable dimensions as Maersk Tankers have chosen to place its entire VLCC fleet, except one which is away on a long-term contract, into the Nova Tankers pool which Morten Pilnov now manages. A pool of about 50 ships at the end of the year with an average age of 3 years equivalent to eight to ten per cent of the global market. A little more than the other major VLCC pool, Tankers International, which Maersk Tankers started in 200 but withdrawed from four years later.
