Danish commercial fleet 2011 turnover a positive surprise

In spite of recessions on most freight markets Danish shipping companies were in 2011 able to perform a turnover topped only by 2008 – the last boom year before the financial crisis.

As early as the middle of 2011 there were expectations that the DKR 175 billion result of 2010 could be repeated, but due to increased activity in the last two quarters the result for 2011 reached DKR 183 billion.

“The turnover reflects the increase of tonnage operated by Danish shipping companies and confirms that the Danish economy will continue to benefit from the large contribution of the shipping industry,” says vice president of the Danish Shipowners’ Association, Jan Fritz Hansen, to the association’s newsletter.
