Tradition-rich tanker company navigates within the niche

Today, the family-owned shipping company from Svendborg, MH Simonsen, is one of the only companies in Northern Europe to primarily transport food products in tankers. As everybody else, the company has been affected by the sour tanker market, but a conservative approach to newbuildings and long-lasting customer relationships have safeguarded the company a little.

For generations, good customer relations and niche expertise have been core values for the family-owned shipping company, MH Simonsen, and they will continue to be so, says the youngest member of the family company.

“The fact that our market is very much a niche market means that the fluctuations remain relatively low, and that we are more specialized. Many of our customers have been with us for a very long time, and we maintain very loyal relationships between us and the majority of our customers. Some have been our customers for 30 – 35 years, and a few go all the way back to when the company was first established,” says Andreas Simonsen.
