Thorco: A great idea, but we are not Clipper’s pool partner

The multi-purpose shipping company, Thorco Shipping, has not discussed a pool partnership with Clipper, but welcomes a potential consolidation, says Thomas Mikkelsen, CEO of Thorco. The German company, BBC, the number one company in the industry, does not wish to comment on possible discussions with Clipper.

Thorco Shipping is not one of the future partners in the pool partnership for multi-purpose ships, which Clipper is discussing with a list of Danish and international players at the moment. At the same time, the management’s message from its headquarters in Svendborg emphasizes the willingness to cooperate.

“A consolidation does not really change anything for us, because the ships are still going to be there. It is not like there will be more or newer ships on the ocean for that reason – they will just be centralized someplace. That idea contains a certain advantage to us, because instead of keeping an eye on several competitors, we would only need to watch one player,” says Thomas Mikkelsen, CEO of Thorco, to ShippingWatch.
