J. Lauritzen major shareholder in ambitious tanker carrier

The Danish shipping company J. Lauritzen has been extremely discreet when it comes to its part in the planning of building a new state-of-the-art tanker fleet in the company Tankers Inc alongside the British investment bank Barclays. The bank has made billions available to former Torm executives.

J. Lauritzen is a major shareholder of the new and ambitious Danish tanker carrier, Tankers Inc., led by former Torm CEO Mikael Skov (Photograph) and other former Torm executives. Tankers Inc is a company with great plans of building a new state-of-the-art tanker fleet. The plans are backed by a capital of several billions made available by the British investment bank, Barclays.

Up until now, J. Lauritzen has been very low-key on its participation in Tankers Inc. and the plans of building a new tanker carrier from scratch when the timing and prices of the future's environmentally friendly and fuel-saving ships are right. Many analysts expects that the tanker sector is the first sector to exit the shipping industry crisis.
