The objective is very clear when the Commissioner for Climate Action, Danish Connie Hedegaard, talks about the role of shipping within the European Commission’s climate policy. Shipping must take responsibility in reducing green house gas emissions as a part of the Commission’s target of reducing CO2 emissions by as much as 25 percent in 2020.

As it is already the case with aviation, shipping will now be subject to rules or quotas or whatever the Commissioner decides this autumn when she presents a final model for the remaining area of transportation.
