Unifeeder: Difficult to reach 2015 target

The Unifeeder ambition to be able to transport three million teu by 2015 may be difficult to reach, Unifeeder CEO, Jesper Kristensen, tells ShippingWatch, following the 2011 annual report in which the general financial prospects are beginning to fade.

Unifeeder may run into difficulties in reaching the ambitious target in the shipping company’s 2015 strategy; to transport three million teu a year. On the one hand, Unifeeder CEO, Jesper Kristensen, sticks to the goal of spreading the company’s concept to cover other regions in Europe but the concrete unit measurement is a tall order considering how the market has developed, not least the last 12 months.

“Our strategy was made at a time in which the market looked considerably different, i.e. in 2007 and 2008. When looking into the future from today’s perspective, it is very clear that things look different and we are affected by the developments in the world economy. However, at Unifeeder, we do not necessarily focus on specific numbers but rather on constantly being capable of expanding our market – factoring in the available cargo volume – both within our present areas and possibly new areas, geographically as well as on services. We still consider this development as still taking place and nothing in that part of our strategy has changed. However, you may say that our 2015 goal is now more ambitious than before”, Jesper Kristensen tells ShippingWatch.
