Norwegian shipyards rolling in new orders

The summer 2012 has become a turning point for the Norwegian shipyards, which are rolling in new orders from the boom in the national oil industry. So far this summer has resulted in 24 orders for newbuildings, worth a total of USD 1.56 billion.

Danish suppliers are reaping the benefits of the expansive Norwegian offshore industry, including Maersk Drilling and other companies and shipyards in the maritime clusters of Frederikshavn and Esbjerg. But the Norwegian shipyards are having the best time with the boom of the Norwegian oil- and gas industry, according to numbers published by Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv.

Among the major recipients of new orders are Kleven Maritime and STK OSV Holding, which - according to the Norwegian business newspaper - are responsible for USD 514.8 million and USD 431.8 million, respectively, of the USD 1.56 billion of total orders this summer.
