Nordea: Increasing dollar rate benefits Danish shipping companies

The increasing dollar rate comforts the Danish shipping companies. Nordic banking group Nordea estimates that it is first and foremost the increasing dollar rate which is responsible for the companies’ growing contribution to the Danish balance of payments.

The contribution from Danish shipping companies to the national accounts was a significant factor behind the balance of payments’ historic high when, in June, the balance hit 15.3 billion kroner, the largest monthly surplus ever. In comparison with May 2012, also a record month, the surplus increased with 2.6 billion kroner.

Behind the increase is also a services surplus of 2.3 billion kroner and of this, the growth in the exportation of maritime transportation accounts for the largest part, reveals numbers from Statistics Denmark.
