Law firm: The equity fund acquisition is a lottery ticket

Jens V. Mathiasen, a partner of the Danish law firm Gorrissen Federspiel’s shipping consultancy group, calls the increasing number of equity fund acquisitions in the shipping industry something of a lottery ticket because the experiences and results achieved are not yet measureable.

The shipping industry has become an attractive option for equity funds which are increasingly pumping money into shipping companies as well as offshore and supply firms. This is the assessment made by Gorrissen Federspiel, a tradition-rich Danish law firm specialized in shipping. Gorrissen Federspiel represents several equity funds. Partner of Gorrissen Federspiel, Jens V. Mathiasen, says to ShippingWatch that the entry of the equity funds into the shipping industry has indeed become a reality.
