Statoil makes new oil discovery in the Sverdrup area

Statoil has made a new massive oil discovery in the Johan Sverdrup area, says the company on Monday. Maersk Oil owns 20 percent of the giant Johan Sverdrup oil field.

Statoil has made a new oil discovery in Utsira High, in the North Sea, along with partners Petroro, Det norske oljeselskap, and Lundin, says Statoil in a press release on Monday.

“A new oil discovery in the Johan Sverdrup area, in the mature part of the North Sea, reinforces Statoil’s faith in the exploration potential of the Norwegian continental shelf,” says Gro Haatvedt, Statoil senior vice president exploration Norway.
