SeaIntel: Container transport to emerging markets is declining

The rates are not just dropping on key routes such as Asia-Europe. According to the latest analysis by SeaIntel, the rates have also been dropping in the new emerging markets.

The decreased rates on the key routes in the past weeks are not the only source for concern among the container shipping companies. According to SeaIntel, the decrease in transport to and from emerging markets is equally noticeable. This is based on numbers from Container Trade Statistics (CTS), among others.

“However, the statistics from CTS also show that the much-heralded emerging markets are equally struggling. The year-on-year growth rates for container volume imports and exports to the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, South and Central America is declining,” says the SeaIntel analysis.
