Broken price discipline prompts new rate drop on Asia-Europe

The spot price on container freight from Shanghai to Northern Europe drops again, show new numbers from the leading Shanghai Shipping Exchange. More specifically, the rate on the Asia-Europe routes dropped with $46 – or 3.8 percent – to $1172.

The spot price for the freighting of a twenty-foot container from Shanghai to Northern Europe dropped yet again this week, shows the latest statement from Shanghai Shipping Exchange.

More specifically, the rate for the Asia-Europe routes with $46 – or 3.8 percent – to $1172. As such, the rates on the route, particularly important to Maersk Line, have dropped in 11 out of the last 12 weeks and far from the June peak level of $1888 per TEU. Calculated to percentages, the downturn since the summer peak has been at 37.9 percent.
