Offshore companies are far more ready and willing to invest in systems for cleaning of ballast water in newbuildings than other shipping companies. That is why, Norway is where Vestergaard Marine Service expects to see its biggest sales figures, the company tells ShippingWatch.

While many shipowners hesitate and maybe even indirectly try to postpone the decision to purchase and install ballast water systems, Norwegian offshore companies do not have the same hesitation to cough up. That is how Vestergaard Marine Service sees the situation as several Norwegian customers inquire about Erma First, the Greek system for the cleaning of ballast water to which Vestergaard Marine Service holds the sole agency in Scandinavia.

“Things move a little slow in this area as the rules for the implementation have not been finally agreed on yet, but at the moment, we are experiencing that our systems fit incredible well to the size of offshore vessels. The different offshore companies and major tank carriers in Norway are interested and we expect Norway to be our biggest market”, Sales Manager at Vestergaard Marine Service, Per Lyngholm Andersen says.
