
The container fleet will see its largest number of deliveries ever according to Braemar’s latest Quarterly Container Ship Fleet Statistics. Approximately 1.7 million teu are set to be delivered in 2013 and the fleet will grow by approximately 9.5 percent during the same period of time.
For the post-Panamax segment, that is ships of 10.000 teu and more, the number of deliveries in 2013 will total 48 ships at a total capacity of 650,000 teu and the report shows that the industry will become more accustomed to operate giant ships of more than 10.000 teu. In the period ranging from last year – 2011 – to 2014, Braemer expects that an average of 50 ships of more than 10,000 teu will be delivered each year.
