That the Maersk Group is by far the biggest business conglomerate in Denmark is probably not surprising. According to the most recent tally of the 1000 largest companies in Denmark, the so-called Golden 1000, published today by the Danish Berlingske Business Magazine, the Maersk Group has an annual turnover of USD 56.1 billion.

But two other companies from the maritime cluster have made their way into the Top 5 this time, so that a total of three companies from the maritime sector are represented among the biggest companies measured by turnover. Number three on the list is Torben Østergaard Nielsen’s USTC group, which is deemed to have a turnover of USD 11.8 billion, and which has moved up on the list from finishing seventh on the 2011 edition. Another Danish bunker giant, the Wrist Group, has also done well, moving from 10th place in 2011 to now being the fifth largest company in the country, with a USD 11.3 billion turnover.
