New anti piracy standard ready soon

ISO will soon present a certification for private armed guards on board ships, writes the Danish Shipowners’ Association.

The ISO certification for pirate guards is expected to be finished soon, and should thus be ready for presentation on the next meeting of the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee MSC91, to be held in the last week of November.

Preparations for the certification for pirate guards ISO/PAS28007 have been underway for some time, and they have included extensive discussions about accreditation, certification and auditing of the guards. Most recently at an EU meeting in early November, where more than 50 representatives were present, from, among others, the IMO, flag states, and shipowners’ associations from all over the world.
