DFDS: New acquisitions within the next half-year

Specifically, DFDS is eyeing companies within ro-ro and logistics in the Northern European area. According to CEO Niels Smedegaard, DFDS will make new acquisitions within the next few months. The company has several billions at its disposal.

Within the next few months, DFDS will make one or more acquisitions in the Northern European ro-ro or logistics segments, CEO Niels Smedegaard reveals to ShippingWatch. The company has received several inquiries from players who are close to quitting the beleaguered market. DFDS is now engaging in negations with several companies involving potential takeovers, which will in all likelihood be concluded within the first six months of 2013.

“Of course, our objective is to move forward now that we have laid low for a while following the integration of Norfolk Line, excepting the terminal in Gothenburg and LD Lines on the English Channel. Obviously, we constantly have a lot of opportunities in the pipeline. However, you have to go through so many units before you find one that fits both strategically and culturally, and one that has the right synergies and market positions. But I expect us to make new acquisitions within the next six months,” says Niels Smedegaard in an interview with ShippingWatch.
