Researcher: The shipping industry fails to notice female talents

The male-dominated culture in the shipping industry can have the unfortunate side effect of making it difficult for women to reach the top. This means that the industry is missing out on resources, that could help renew and improve it, says anthropologist Michael Flarup, who followed a shipping company for three months.

"In the time I've spent with the shipping industry, I've seen an industry that strives to be innovative, try new things, and to attract new people. But there some basic elements of the industry's culture and gender composition that make it difficult for women to reach the level of senior management," says anthropologist Michael Flarup.
