"In the time I've spent with the shipping industry, I've seen an industry that strives to be innovative, try new things, and to attract new people. But there some basic elements of the industry's culture and gender composition that make it difficult for women to reach the level of senior management," says anthropologist Michael Flarup.
He has been working on his thesis at the Educational University of Denmark, entitled Genderized Learning, for a little over a year. As part of his thesis, he has spent three monts following shipping trainees in a shipping company that he describes as being in the top five, though, as part of his agreement with the company, he is not allowed to make the name of the company public.
