Freight rates on Asia-Europe increase markedly

The announced rate increases, which take effect on December 15th, have impacted spot rates markedly, show numbers from Shanghai Shipping Index this week. The rates on the Mediterranean also receive a noticeable boost.

The SCFI-index for spot rates between Shanghai and Europe has increased with 351 USD this week, which ends today. That is a marked increase of 35.1 percent. On the routes from Shanghai to the Mediterranean, the rates have increased with no less than 66.1 percent or 477 USD.

Thereby, the rate increases announced on December 15th have already had a significant effect. Maersk Line has announced rate increases of 550 USD from Asia to Northern Europe and 600 USD from Asia to the Mediterranean.
