Norden: Education fund is a step in the right direction

A systemic effort regarding education is needed, and the proposal involving a competence fund is therefore a positive development, says Lars Lundegaard, Senior Vice President & Head of the Technical Department in Norden. However, turning the proposal into a reality will demand a lot of work, says Lundegaard.

Recently, The Danish Maritime Officers proposed the establishment of a so-called competence fund to which the entire industry will contribute resources so that the responsibility of educating future ship’s officers rests not only in the hands of a few companies in Denmark.

The proposal is welcomed by Lars Lundegaard, Senior Vice President & Head of the Technical Department of Norden – one of the companies who today are responsible for a significant part of the practical education.
