Parliament adopts EU strategy for the Horn of Africa

The European Parliament has adopted an EU strategy for the Horn of Africa. A strong signal to the member states to maintain pirate focus, shipowners say.

The last couple of years have resulted in several reports on piracy in general but on Wednesday, the European Parliament adopted an especially positive report on the EU strategy for the Horn of Africa, the Danish Shipowners’ Association’s Brussels representative Simon Bergulf states.

“It is a clear signal of political support from the European Parliament to the job done by the EU in the region, both at sea and on the ground, and the political support is important. With the report, the MEP’s send out a really strong signal to the member states that they must keep their navies and military forces in the area”, he says.
