Massive interest in shipowners' trainee programs

Come February and March, the Danish shipping companies will be recruiting new trainees. And there is certainly no lack of interest, says several shipping companies to ShippingWatch.

The shipping companies have a lot of options when they are to choose their new shipping trainees in the coming months. This because, in a market where many segments are short of workers, the shipping companies can now affirm that there are a lot of young people wo are interested in an office education in shipping.

This according to a phone survey of several Danish shipping companies. Both Torm and Clipper have at this stage in the process received 112 and 140 applications, respectively, while J. Lauritzen can reveal that the number of applications over the past ten years has been a steady 200. Torm's number of applicants was similar to this, until the company was hit by the crisis in 2012, during which period the company did not take on any trainees.
