Analysis approves EU scrapping fund

A new analysis performed in the EU points to the scrapping fund as the best financial mechanism for securing environmental scrapping, though the analysis shows that further studies could be necessary and that it would take time to implement.

The proposal of an EU scrapping fund, which would ensure a more environmental scrapping of obsolete ships, has been deemed a tool worthy of further development, according to a new analysis ordered by the European Parliament.

Starting from three basic targets, studies and interviews have been used to analyze several different proposals for a financing mechanism to help regulate irresponsible scrapping.
