30 large container vessels seek employment

As carriers deploy their giant ships on Asia-Europe, they move existing vessels to the Pacific. There, the overall capacity will far exceed the weekly demand. A rate increase will be difficult to carry out, Alphaliner assesses.

While the major container carriers have been forced to change plans to deploy further vessels on the major routes between Asia and Europe as a result of weak demand approximately 30 large container vessels of 7,000-10,000 teu are seeking employment elsewhere.

According to Alphaliner, the majority of the unemployed ships will be deployed in the Pacific either directly or transferred from Asia-Europe, which will result in the Pacific capacity far exceeding demand which is very low at the moment.
