
In Q1 2012 newbuilding orders for vessels across all shipping segments totalled what would be equivalent to 30.8 million cgt. in a year, corresponding to nearly the entire global shipyard capacity of 35 cgt., according to new data from RS Platou Economic Research.
Platou’s calculations show that the number of new orders was 40 pct. higher than expected.
