BHP Billiton disappoints analysts after H1

The Australian miner finished the first half of its fiscal year worse than expected, though improvements are emerging in several commodity sectors, says BHP in its interim report.

Australian BHP Billiton, the world's biggest mining group, finished the first half of its fiscal year with a lower result than expected. The fiscal period ended with the month of December.

BHP's underlying net profit came to USD 4.05 billion against a projected result of USD 4.34 billion, according to analyst estimates gathered by Bloomberg News.
