Norwegian shipowner charged with illegal scrapping

Norwegian shipowner Georg Eide has been charged by the country's financial police in a case concerning illegal scrapping, reports Norwegian media.

Norway's financial crime unit, Økokrim, has charged Georg Eide, the former head of shipping group Eide, for his role in an attempt to smuggle a dry bulk ship to illegal scrapping in Pakistan, reports Norwegian local media Stord24.

The incident occurred in February 2017 and was discovered by the authorities because the ship, named Harrier, ran aground in Norwegian waters.
