Analyst casts doubt on super cycle in dry bulk

The dry bulk market is roaring ahead with the highest rates in a decade, but the recovery is not headed for a super-cycle, as has been the case in the past, writes Bimco, referring to the record levels recorded in 2007 and 2008.

Although dry bulk carriers are benefiting from strong demand and high freight rates after a decade of drudgery and overcapacity, they would do well to abandon any notions of an imminent super cycle, according to Bimco.

In a new analysis, Bimco's chief analyst Peter Sand compares the current levels to the market situation in 2007 and 2008.
