BHP: Iron ore production up ahead of 2016

BHP Billiton's production of iron ore skyrocketed in the fiscal year 2014/2015. CEO expects increasing production ahead of 2016.

The Australian mining company BHP Billiton had a strong year with growth in output, reduced costs and better performance, according to CEO Andrew Mackenzie in a so-called operational review released Wednesday, ahead of the group's financial report for the year 2014/2015, which ended on the 30th of June.

The company especially points to growth in the production of iron ore from the facilities in Western Australia where production grew by all of 14 percent to a total of 233 million tons (mt). And the CEO highlights that there is only more iron ore to come from the region.
