Major carriers take larger piece of the US market pie

CMA CGM, MSC, Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd and Evergreen Line have increased their aggregate market share in the US this year, reports the Journal of Commerce. But new large players are major competitors vying the top five.

Some of the world's largest container carriers have increased their combined market share in the US this year, and with Maersk Line's takeover of Hamburg Süd, which was finalized last week, the concentration of US shares of the market will grow.

CMA CGM, MSC, Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd and Evergreen Line have seen a combined increase of their total imports by 1.2 percentage points to 51.1 percent, while 0.5 percentage points were added to export volumes where these carrier boast a combined share of 50.1 percent, reports the Journal of Commerce, citing data from sister department Piers.
