Alphaliner: Container growth has begun to slow down

In line with Kuehne + Nagel's analysts, Alphaliner also sees a slowdown in container growth. In the second quarter 2018, growth dipped to its lowest level since 2016. US sanctions have also impacted the Middle Eastern market.

There are still more containers in circulation in the world's largest container ports, but growth in volumes has decreased and remained at its lowest level since 2016 in the second quarter, says analyst firm Alphaliner in its weekly newsletter after analyzing 200 major ports.

In the second quarter, global container volumes grew by 4.7 percent according to the study, and there was continued positive growth across all regions excepting the Middle East where volumes fell by 1.4 percent.
