US warns shipping against dealing with Iranian companies

More than 200 individuals and ships in the Iranian shipping and energy sector, including the two major state-owned carriers, are included on the US sanction list. The US warns the global shipping industry against Iranian attempts to evade the sanctions.

The US warns the shipping sector against doing business with the state-owned Iranian shipping groups Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) after sanctions against Iran were reimposed Monday.

In a statement, the US Treasury writes that the sanctions against Iran cover 65 subsidiaries and individuals associated to the two state-owned shipping companies, as well as 122 ships from IRISL, including shipping companies Valfajr Shipping, Hafez Darya Arya Shipping and Safiran Payam Darya Shipping. Add to this another 37 shipping companies and vessels associated with NITC, while data for 52 ships owned by NITC have been updated, writes the US.
