Container lines cancel 11 percent of all sailings in first half year

11 percent of container carriers' planned sailings have been canceled for the first half of this year, show new figures from an analysis firm. However, the canceled itineraries are only a part of the story, adds the firm.

The coronavirus havoc has prompted liner companies to cancel 11 percent of their planned sailings for this year's first six months, shows a new report from analysis firm Eesea.

Altogether, the container shipping lines have voided 1,675 sailings for the period. Looking at individual alliances, Ocean Alliance and THE Alliance have both voided 17 percent of their sailings, while 2M has voided 13 percent.
