Two container lines in particular expanded their fleets in 2020

Eight of the world's 12 largest container lines expanded their fleets this year. Two shipping lines in particular accounted for the biggest fleet growth in teu, while things looked different for the world's biggest container line, Maersk, writes Alphaliner.

With a significant expansion of its fleet, South Korea's HMM climbed up the ranking of the world's largest container lines in 2020.

According to an overview by Alphaliner, HMM and CMA CGM both recorded the biggest fleet growth in 2020 measured in teu. As such, HMM grew its fleet 85 percent this year, and the South Korean container line thus moved from 10th place to 8th on the list of the world's biggest container players, writes Alphaliner.
