Seaspan to expand container business with new activities

Seaspan is first and foremost known for being the world’s largest owner and lessor of ships in the container industry. But the sector is undergoing rapid change, and Seaspan is therefore working to expand its business within the container industry, COO Torsten Pedersen tells ShippingWatch.

As the world’s largest owner of container ships, Seaspan could in some fashion sit back and revel in the fact that its order book has never been bigger. That customers have never been richer. And that charter contracts with shipping companies have never been longer.

As a supplier of tonnage to a sector that has been sailing at record rates for the past year and a half, the Hong Kong-registered company with operational headquarters in Vancouver can indeed have peace of mind. Its latest accounts for 2021 confirm that Seaspan, part of Atlas Corporation, is extremely solid and the money is just rolling in.
