Søren Skou: "Strong headwind" will send container market into tangible decline

Economic slowdown has sent the container market back to the level prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Maersk CEO Søren Skou nonetheless forecasts solid earnings for the industry for some years to come.

The economic decline that has hit the world within recent months is starting to manifest itself in earnest within the container industry, including at the world’s second-largest carrier Maersk.

Consumers are beginning to hold back due to general uncertainty following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and because increasing inflation constrains their purchasing power.
