Sky-high gas prices put economic pressure on carriers with LNG-powered ships

The price difference on LNG and heavy fuel is historically high, adding pressure on carriers which have banked on LNG as a marine fuel, says analyst. CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd have chosen two different approaches with their dual-fuel fleets.


Container carriers that have banked on so-called dual-fuel LNG vessels as a transitional solution in the green energy transformation are certainly following the ongoing energy crisis, which has pushed gas prices to a historically high level.
