Last week’s increase in spot rates on global container freight was an isolated occurrence.

This week, the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI), which measures spot rates on box freight from Shanghai to a number of global destinations, dropped by 0.2 percent to 908.35 points.

The index increased marginally by 0.3 percent last week after decreasing for nine consecutive weeks.

The SCFI is still 79.5 percent below the level a year ago. Last week’s 906.55 points were the lowest level since May 2020.

The index peaked in early 2022 at 5,109.6.
