When Maersk Line launches a colossal newbuilding program within the next six months, worth USD 15 billion in total, the money will especially be spent on the major ship types of 14,000 teu and above, Maersk Line CEO Søren Skou tells ShippingWatch after the carrier yesterday announced that the investment program will soon turn into orders at the Asian shipyards.

"In order to grow with the market, which is our strategy, we need to add ships for a capacity of 425,000 teu to our fleet in the period from 2017 to 2019. We need various sizes, but the main focus will be on major ships of more than 14,000," says Søren Skou.
