SeaIntel: Far too many big container ships next year

69 newbuildings of more than 10,000 teu are set to hit the water, starting now and continuing throughout 2015. If no drastic measures are taken, capacity on the Asia-Europe container routes could grow 15 percent.

With 69 new ultra-large ships set to join the container fleet, starting in the final months of 2014 and continuing throughout 2015 - and all of which are expected to be deployed on the Asia-Europe services - total capacity growth could increase by as much as 15 percent toward the end of next year.
